The Touareg is Volkswagen largest SUV, this means it comes up against a lot of high class competition. The Porsche Cayenne for example or Audi’s prestigious Q7, then theres the Mercedes GLE to name just a few. So with that in mind, can VW produce a car of quality to match these premium badges? Things look positive, the Touareg shares the same mechanics as the Porsche Cayenne, which isn’t a bad thing.
Firstly to the engines and things are kept extremely simple as there is only one available, a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine. Previous models have offered V10 5 litre engines but the current model has done away with this. There are certain advantage of driving the currnet V6 over the previous V10. For example the V6 is far less of a gas guzzler, not to mention the V10 was ridiculously noisy.
There are also good pints to report when it comes to the cars performance and drive. The car is extremely comfortable and handles well, feeling sharp throughout. The Touareg grips extremely well which makes up for the body roll in corners, which is to be somewhat expected in a vehicle of this size. If you’re looking to go off road the car also handles itself here, with hill descent control which really lends to the cars off road feel.
